3 Rules of Engagement

There are so many variables that need to be taken into consideration when entering into a physical altercation, but there are only a few things that you alone can do. There are three that I would like to highlight for you today.

1. Breathe If you can’t breathe, you can’t fight; it’s as simple s that!Sometimes remembering to breathe is the most difficult thing, when defending yourself. You get so caught up in what you are going to do next, or what your opponent is going to throw at you, that you clench up and forget to breathe. This is the downfall for so many, and it can be the downfall for you, if you don’t remind yourself to take a deep breathe. Keep that jaw tight and chin down, and breathe with every strike!

2. Hands Up Our natural inclination is to drop our hands when we get tired, but unfortunately, that isn’t a luxury we are given when we fight. For those of us who train, it’s a little easier, and that’s why you NEED to train. However, it’s a reminder you can give yourself. If your hands are down, you open yourself up to attacks to the head and likely to the body. Hands need to be up in front of the face, palms facing out, and elbows in front of the ribs.

3. It’s YOUR Turn A motto we have at FearLess Nation is, It’s ALWAYS my turn! You can never give your opponent the luxury of time to think of what they want to do or anticipate your next move. It’s entirely your turn! In Krav Maga, one of the main principals is to have a simultaneous counter attack whenever possible, because it takes away their turn. Let your mantra be, It’s always my turn!

So, my friends, bear these in mind when you train or worse, when you’re in a fight. The most important thing that you can do for yourself is train – learn to become the super heroes you dreamed of being when you were a child!

Stay safe, my friends!
